Golf

June 29, 2007

So today was my “good mommy” day and I loved it.  Although baking camp and tree camp were fun, I find golf to be very satisfying as well…interacting with other children who do not share your parents, learning to take turns, taking instruction from an adult other than myself or Paul, getting life lessons outside our little home where routine gets pretty boring.  Overall a very good day.  Golf, swimming and a little martial arts for good measure.  Going into the weekend feeling happy…and finding that the kids are also thriving on their interaction with others outside of our bubble!!

(yes, that put went IN right after i snapped this photo)

Uh-oh…

June 29, 2007

Paul informed me last night that according to the most recent issue of Men’s Health, Brunette’s have more fun.  The article states, “Sixty-three percent of men think blondes are airheads; only 2 percent consider brunettes to be ditzy.”  I still think that you can be ditzy and have more fun…

On another note, I’m feeling like a better mom today…Brigg has golf lessons this morning AND board breaking at TKD tonight!  That’s as busy as we get around here!  :)   Heres to a great Friday!

Little things

June 28, 2007

Working around the house today to get some little things accomplished.  I had a mishap with a hotel we stayed at a couple weeks ago and have been on the phone and faxing trying to get things straightened out.  I think I have that all taken care of.  Whew.  I have finally gotten to the post office yesterday to get stamps and get some things sent out that were long overdue.  Then today I received Donna’s birthday card back in the mail as I had used her address, by MY city and zip code.  I’m turning into such a ditz!

I got a tip from Donna on a cleaner to use in your dishwasher if you get hard water stains on your dishes.  It’s called Lemi Shine and I have only been able to find it out Wal-Mart.  I have been using it for a week or two and can tell a HUGE difference.  I highly recommend it!!  Kids are playing quietly…Lani is painting in the kitchen (on paper) and Brigg is playing in the living room with his soldiers.  Thank goodness they have been entertained all morning while I got things straightened out.

Other than that, things are pretty calm around here today.  Going to the park for lunch and Brigg has TKD at 4:00.  We have a busy weekend ahead of us, so we are looking forward to a somewhat relaxed day today!  It’s almost Friday!! :)

We can no longer live a lie…

June 27, 2007

One week ago today I had my ultrasound.  In the months leading up to this day we had definitely decided that we were not going to find out the sex of our baby.  We did not find out with either Brigg nor Lani and it was so fun.  Well, apparently, I had solely decided that I was not going to find out the sex this time either because as we drove to the ultrasound Paul informed me that HE was going to be finding out the sex of this baby!  I tried to push him to wait and he was adament.  He said I could leave the room and he would just find out.  Well there was no way that was going to happen!  So we found out and we decided we would keep it to ourselves until the baby arrived.  So for 8 LONG days I hid this information from all that I loved.  I told nobody.  I actually LIED to several people when they asked if we knew what we were having.  I felt awful and it haunted me.  Finally today I could take it no more.  I called Paul at work and told him I could no longer live in this dark world of lying and deceit.  He laughed and told me I could tell anyone I liked.  So here it goes.  Burback baby #3 is a GIRL.  Paul’s family consisted of an older boy followed by 2 girls as well as MY family.  It was inevitable.  Plus, all the men in Paul’s mom’s life have July birthdays, so seeing as this baby is due in November, there in no way it could be a boy.  Seriously, ALL the men in Donna’s life are boys…her husband, son, TWO son-in-laws, and a grandson…all July birthdays.  Pretty amazing.  So a girl it is.  I’m not sure I’m ready for this ride again… :)

Happy Birthday, Nana B!!

June 27, 2007

Happy Birthday Donna!  The paper Lani is holding really did say “Nana B” at one time.  She got a little crazy with the coloring part!!  Hope your day is great.  We feel so blessed to have such an amazing nana for our babies!!  Enjoy your day…

2 Day Tree Camp

June 27, 2007

We had 2 campers enrolled in this camp.  One day one we watched our very favorite tree in the neighborhood be cut down because it was dead.  This tree housed many turkey vultures and we saw it from our kitchen window everyday.  We were very sad to see it fall…

On day 2 we woke to find that our second favorite oak tree in the neighborhood had been hit by lightening and a huge branch had fallen off.  There is a crack down the middle of the tree.  We are hoping it will survive…

Burback Baking Camp 2007

June 27, 2007

Lani signed up for my day camp on Monday.  She was the only camper.  We made homemade egg noodles and she built castles with flour.  We proceeded to bake brownies with homemade frosting and sprinkles…

A free bath was included…

It was a success.  I think we’ll do it again sometime! :)

Interesting…

June 26, 2007

A group of artists, musicians, builders, travelers, organizers, dreamers that built a raft from “trash” and decided to float down the Mississippi from Minneapolis to New Orleans.  They are currently docked at Ducky’s in Andalusia and plan on hitting Muscatine in the near future.  Mom and Dad chatted with them last night and got their website today.  Check it out here: www.missrockaway.org

Read “Project Info”.  Mom and Dad said they were really neat people.  Here is a little blurb from their site…

“The Miss Rockaway Armada is a group of approximately 25 performers and artists from all over the country including members of the Toyshop Collective, Visual Resistance, The Amateurs, The Floating Neutrinos, The Infernal Noise Brigade, The Madagascar Institute and the Rude Mechanical Orchestra. This July we converged in Minneapolis to construct a flotilla of rafts that will journey down the Mississippi River. We’re stopping in towns along the way, hosting musical performances and vaudeville variety-theater in the evenings, along with workshops and skill-shares centered around arts and environmental issues during the day. In our travels we intend to share stories and to solicit dialogue around subversive and constructive ways of living. We are a group of intrepids who believe in a hands-on, live-by-example approach to creating change within our culture. We are taking cues from Johnny Appleseed, traveling medicine shows, nomadic jewel box theater, and of course that old radical Mark Twain.

We are a small group of people with extensive experience making big insane projects. In the past we have taken 20-person bands to Mexico, pulled off town square-sized guerrilla theater in Berlin, and fed hundreds of people with garbage and love. We know this idea is ridiculous and impossible. That’s why we’re obsessed with it.”

If you are interested in this at all, go to their site and check it out.  They have a “wish list” and things can be brought to Ducky’s in Andalusia!  One man’s trash is another man’s treasure! :)

So…

June 25, 2007

Today I’m feeling a little guilty.  As I look through other “mommy blogs”, I am finding that all the other moms in town are carting their children around to British soccer camp (which I swear I knew nothing about until today…but apparently it is the best summer program in town.  ugh.  Paul said Brigg will be fine.  “He knows how to run, doesn’t he??”), or nature camp (hey, we DID go to the zoo a few weeks ago, AND Lani found a worm yesterday and proceeded to kill it, therefore learning all about the cycle of life.  that works, right?!?), or t-ball (Paul had taught Brigg how to bat and pitch and catch, so we should be ok there) or tennis lessons (ok, all I have for this is the fact that Brigg and Lani know how to throw a tennis ball for Harley to fetch).  Instead, the kids are just getting out of their pajamas (oops…it’s already 10:15) and into the bath.  We have no plans until 4:00 TKD.  We’ve decided we will eat lunch at the park and hit the waterpark after that.  So I’m trying to justify not signing my kids up for all these fun activities offered in town.  I guess my best justification is that if we signed them up for all those activities, we wouldn’t be able to fix this….

yes, that is a HOLE in our living room ceiling.  So we may be behind in tennis, baseball, soccer and nature stuff, but at least we will be dry.  Right?
